Your Guide to Wooden Office Furnitures-I

Here are the important things that you should know about having wooden office furnitures:

About Solid Wood. Solid hardwood office furnitures were made by drying them slowly in kilns down to about six percent moisture content, after which they were cut and shaped into the desired design to provide the structure of the office furniture. These pieces are usually the legs, the frame, and the posts that support the weight of the office desk, office chair, etc. They are all glued together so if you want to check if the piece is glued together correctly, lift it by one corner. The entire piece should remain whole and still able to hold its form. But more importantly, the major concern when it comes to buying solid wood office furnitures is that they could be the most expensive on the list.

About Plywood and Particleboard. Since solid wood has the innate tendency to expand and contract depending on the humidity of the environment, the use of non-solid wood has been implemented in the business of office furnitures. Plywood and particle boards have been proven to be more sturdy so they are being constantly used for tabletops or the framing of the cabinets. They are also less likely to warp or split, and they are often covered by veneers to create the illusion of being a large block

About Veneers. As mentioned beforehand, the veneer is usually used to create the illusion that a plywood or particleboard are one solid block of wood. The veneer is usually a thin slice of wood that is selected for its significant features. This practice dates back to the ancient civilization of Egypt and Rome in the 17th Century. Today, when the office furniture is more expensive over the other, it is probably because little veneer has been used. Veneers are used to cover the core panels and to create the patterns that add “interest and beauty” to a piece. In some occasions, solid woods that are more expensive are used as veneers because they can not be used as structural parts.

Those were just a few notable things that you should know about your wooden office furniture. More importantly, you should be able to know how to clean them, and what cleaning aids should be used.
