Workplace Privacy 101

Maintaining the right amount of privacy in the workstation can be difficult to attain. However, with the right office furnitures and the right cubicle partitions, it just might be possible. An employee who spends at least eight hours a day needs not only the most ergonomic office furnitures, but to have his own privacy as well. It should be important for an employee to be able to enjoy his own privacy, but it should not be to the point where he is isolated from the rest of his other co-workers. Hence, these are the essential elements of privacy that the office should provide:

Acoustical Privacy. This pertains to the noise distractions like the constant ringing of the phone, or the distracting conversations of co-workers, and even the noise outside the office such as the traffic, etc. Hence, office furniture retailers ave come up with screens that are to be used in preventing unnecessary noise to the cubicle of an employee. These screens may vary in length and scope, it can be available in standard or monitor screen, desk acoustic screens and even floor-length acoustic screens can now be purchased.

Visual Privacy. Even if the employee’s focus is on the monitor of his computer, his peripheral vision is still active and very much prone to visual distractions. Distractions may be from the co-workers’ rapid movements, and all the other activities that goes on in the workplace. Screens will also work for this case.

Territorial Privacy. In some offices where cubicles are not implemented, the employees tend to create their own territorial boundaries just so his other co-workers will not “trespass” his workplace. There are some who can not work knowing that he can not have his own spatial harmony. This leads to creating a “barrier” out of folders and books which leads to having an unorganized work area. The solution for this would be to purchase the right shelves from retailers to cultivate privacy and organization.

Informational Privacy. This is important to harness the privacy of information for the company’s rights. Even if everyone in the office works for the same company, other departments should have their right to private information, and this could be solved by standard office furnitures such as panels, shelves, etc.
