Well Designed Office: Boosting Employee Morale

Can the design of a workplace directly affect employee morale? The answer is yes. According to new research, the interior layout or how the office furniture is positioned and utilized can make a difference to motivation and morale of the staff.

In a study on the working environments of 180 businesses conducted by Stubbs Rich Architecture Firm, it reveals that issues concerning office design from ventilation to the arrangement of office furniture such as desks, chairs, storage, etc. contribute greatly to a happy office environment.


In the research, the findings show that 17% of the respondents finds the air quality and ventilation in their office ‘comfortable’ while almost 20% of the total sample have no direct access to windows in their workplace.

In addition having pantry, lounges, or a small area where employees can relax while having their breaks is equally important in keeping the morale of the company high. According to the research, 39% of the sample population claimed that they do not have such office facilities.

Boosting employee morale does not only depend on providing the staff with area for breaks and relaxation but giving them quality office furniture that are not just aesthetically inclined but quality one as well. It will be helpful if office furniture provide the staff with comfort while doing their office work.

It is recommended that companies make sure office layout, facilities and office furniture make difference in creating a healthy work environment since it is highly regarded as essential in keeping the morale of the workers at its peak. With this, employees will indeed feel that their happiness, comfort and welfare are being prioritized, making them effective workers as well.
