Using Office Furniture to Create the Ideal Spacing
The ideal arrangement of office furniture is crucial to an environment that is conducive to productivity and creativity. It also allows you maximize the advantages brought about by ergonomic office chairs, for example.
So the first step is to draw up a list of what the office needs. What does your office need to do? What does it need to accomplish? Of course, the task is easy when there are less items to arrange, such as positioning only one or two offices. But even in these situations, taking the time to think things through is still important.
Consider the desk, which is the heart of an office. How large does it need to be? Will it hold a computer? Are drawers needed to file away or keep secure important papers?
This is important because you also have to make sure there is enough space for a comfortable office chair. Is there enough space for both the desk and the chair? Is it loose enough for the chair to comfortably pull out? It becomes irritating for employees if they’re forced to squeeze in and out of their work spaces.
And how is the spacing when the person is seated? Is the desk too low that the employee’s thighs are pushed up against the underside? It can become tiring, not to mention painful, for the worker to have to slide his legs in and out.
Back to the desk. Is the desktop deep enough to hold a computer, while providing the proper space needed for the arms to rest on. And let’s not forget that the size of the keyboard and the mouse have to be taken into consideration. Considering these settings properly will make for a happy workforce, which is a lot easier to manage.
Here are some tips to keep in mind while you’re setting up a computer on your office desk:
It’s a given that the monitor must be in front of you, directly within your line of sight. The top edge of the display must be near the level of your eyes. This makes sure that you don’t have to move your head up and down so much. That kind of movement will give your neck more reason to move, increasing the chances for strain.
The next important part of the computer which needs to be set up optimally is the keyboard. Make sure it is the same height as your elbow. The only way to find this out is to test it out for yourself and take a seat on your chair.
Speaking of which, the most crucial part of the properly spaced office is the office chair. First and foremost, it must be ergonomic. In other words, it should fit the body of the employee well. So much depends on this, and it helps avoid injuries, such as to the back and shoulders.
There are much more options to consider. But for now, concern yourself only with the spacing of the furniture. Just make sure everything matches your bodily proportions, and you’ll have no problems.
