Urbandale business sells more than paper clips

The office supply business has develop from typewriter ribbons, carbon paper and mimeograph ink to toner for desktop printers and state-of-the-art office furniture. This is according to Dick Triplett.

Dick Triplett, 63, is the founder of the 33-year-old Triplett company in Urbandale. From its roots as an office supply company, it has developed into one with several divisions that include office supplies, commercial printing, office furniture and design.


Triplett’s company has an ground-level showroom for its franchise business , Office Funiture USA. Haworth furniture, is located at the upper-level showroom for which Triplett is a distributor. Designers, planners and managers work in cubicles and offices with moveable walls, set up was made to show clients what possibilities are good in office design and with the Haworth line.

Eight Triplett trucks are time and again noticeable around town. The company also has a Dubuque office with five employees.

The company now became a family business as Sue Triplett, 63, Dick’s wife, has been actively involved with the company from the beginning in a variety of areas, including human resources and accounting. Through the years, their sons have also joined the company. Tom, 41, manages the furniture side of the business. Tim, 40, is in charge of sales.

The family said it always makes itself accessible to its clients.

“You can call out here any day of the week and talk to a Triplett,” Dick said.
