Tidy Up your Home Office – Part 2
Power source is another important thing, we need to make sure to have uninterrupted power supply system (UPS) to deal with power outages. You never know when there will be one and you could easily lose important documents or reports thus, it is safe to back up files. Also make sure to switch off the devices or equipment as well as the power supply when not in use to prevent over-utilization and short circuit problems.
Make sure your work area does not get in the way of the normal activities at home but still maintains an office environment conducive for work. Gadgets and electronics, like the computer and its components, telephones or fax machines, are necessary when doing business make sure the office furniture you buy can carry these in an organized manner and not cluttering the top of your desk. Make sure cables are out of the way and there are no office supplies scattered in different places specially if you have children at home they can easily swallow items like staples or paper clips.
Make an effort to arrange them in a way that will help you work productively, get storage or filing cabinets if needed and make it a habit to dust them since you will be working there a lot you want it to be clean. It will also help if you have a cork board or a white board above your work area for reminders and your to do lists, arranged according to priority and severity.
Having an office at home and maintaining it can be a lot of work in itself. It is advisable that you have a spare room dedicated for this purpose specially if you intend to work full time in it. It must be well lit and away from distraction, yet it still exudes that feeling of comfort while working and not the stress from all the paper work you need to do. A well-organized home office saves you money you would have used to rent elsewhere.
