Office Furnitures Going Global – Part 1

Showing Off

Stelter Partner’s Willink table in on display at the ongoing NeoCon trade show. Apparently, the Grand Rapids-based company is changing the nature of the office furniture industry.

What is to be exhibited at the show is a table that is literally global in manufacture. A West Michigan designer created the table. The base is made in Thailand. A Rockford company makes the wiring, and a Grand Rapids manufacturer crafts the top. Office furniture definitely is getting a transformation.

To be held for three-days at The Merchandise Mart, the 39th annual NeoCon World’s Trade Fair is now in full swing. More than 50,000 designers, architects and facility managers will flock to the site to witness the best display of office furniture the global industry has to offer. Designs that exude diversity is sure to headline the exhibit as more than 45 countries are going to represented among exhibitors at the show.

Jessie Chang of Well-Run Technology Co. of Tainan, Taiwan aims to show the world of its ingenious products. She works for Well-Run Technology Co. based in Tainan, Taiwan who basically competes with their neighboring giant. “Taiwan manufacturers have to compete with China and all the cheap chairs being made there,” said Chang.

There is obviously a competition amongst the Asian manufacturers. Many of them are trying to break out of the confines of their continent and hope to make a giant leap overseas. “We’re trying to distinguish Taiwan-made products from the Chinese.” said the Chang.

Jessie is just a part of an increasing number of Asian NeoCon exhibitors who are looking forward for a steady customer base. With o distribution channel, her company is finding it hard to establish their business in the American channel. “We haven’t sold so many chairs in the United States just yet,” she said.

It is safe to say that with events such as the NeoCon trade show, the rise of overseas manufacturers catering to the U.S. market will continue to increase in the coming years. Perhaps, there are customers who are looking for a change in design and make as well.
