Office Furniture Project Management 101-II
After being able to learn about the project management capabilities of your selected office furniture dealer, here is the list of tasks that the Project Manager should be able to accomplish. Or, if in case you have decided to do the office furniture project management yourself, then read twice, and you will be a very efficient project manager in no time.
A Project Manager:
1- should act as the primary contact for all queries or concerns about the furnitures to be ued for this project.
2- should be there during the original planning meeting. This is to note that you know what to expect from the end, given that you specified what you want from the start.
3- must assess first all the present office furnitures. They may still be reused for this project, and you as the project manager should know what blends and what does not. At the same time, the project manager should also make all the necessary measurements of the area that is needed.
4- is the one who collects the data when it comes to the function and needs of your staff. Just as well it involves the discussion of the company’s projected growth. The project manager should also attend important construction or project meetings with the other key people involved in the project.
5- has to develop a precise office furniture project schedule which states all the delivery and installation dates, to meet the “move-in” date.
6- must be able to give status reports and all the necessary updates.
7- should be the one who takes care of giving a Certificate of Insurance to the building manager.
8- has to review CAD drawings and all the product specifications.
9- must do the final walk through with the client, and make a punch list. But, if an architect or outside design firm is involved in the furniture, they can take care of the walk through.
10- should oversee all punch list work and get a sign off from the client when all work is completed to their satisfaction.
Remember the two elements well: meeting the time and budget. Do this and you surely will succeed in office furniture project management.
