Office Furniture and Work Place Improvements Increase Productivity
Most office workers consider their place of work as their home away from home since they spend most of their waking time there than in any other location. With that, employers should realise that the office furniture and workstations found in the office are just as important as the home furniture. A less stoic-looking office desk or the use of an ergonomic office furniture will make all the difference. This will help improve productivity.
Comparing an executive office to the rest of the office, one will discover how personal touches make the workspace more conducive for organization and affectivity. However, if the workplace will contain uniform office furniture, the same office desks, the same office chairs, the same sized workstation; it somehow creates a gloomy atmosphere. Which doesn’t exactly boost an employee’s morale, in fact, that sort of office furniture choice makes them feel under-valued.
It’s good to note that employers who take this into account and act on it will be able to get noticeable results.
One recommendation is for employers to apply a controllable allowance on placing personal items in their employees’ workstation even when it is a known fact that their initial hesitation in doing so lies on a fear that the office will become cluttered and unprofessional. They also fear that these items may cause distraction and decrease in productivity.
Based on the observation done by GDB Office Furniture Solutions, applying a fresh coat of paint, that’s bright and cheery, can actually brighten the mood of the place and, of course, will automatically have a positive effect on employees’ disposition. This action may contribute in affecting increase in morale and productivity.
It’s suggested that employers should let employees control the lighting at their office desks. Though most offices have available standard lighting fixtures, letting employees bring in a desk lamp that will let them add more focused lighting in their work station can make their workstation feel a little brighter and comfortable.
It’s also advisable to allot a portion of the work place that can accommodate the employees during breaks or during periods wherein they need to de-stress. It should be a room that offers a semi-private setting, with a warm welcoming feeling, soft lighting, and comfortable furniture. This room should be free to use so they can have a place to tune out the noise of the office, clear their mind and refocus.
With all the aforementioned suggestions employers will find that it’s not such a tall order to achieve a more comfortable work place for their employees. Showing that they care about them will influence them to care about their work thus rendering work effectively and productively. It’s actually a win-win situation.
