How to organize your own home office - II
Organization plays a key role in achieving a successful home office. Although it may be the kind of thing that you have happily left in your corporate office workplace, it is still needed at home. This is due to the feared mixing up of family documents with work papers, or including the bills into your workload. A professional organizer from Chicago has pointed out that it is a must to create a balance between work and home life, more like putting everything in its own place.
It is important that you should be keen in everything, even in setting up your filing system. Always make sure that your personal stuffs and your business-related things will not get mixed with each other—for when that happens, things will be more difficult than they are.
Therefore, it is recommended to keep an eye on the mail and other paperwork. They should not be just piled anywhere. If you are too busy to read your mail, try to put it in a pencil drawer in your desk so it that it will be clear from work. However, this is just a holding zone. You should not allow your items to remain a long time in the drawer for a day or two.
When it comes to the filing system, it should be noted that filing is specifically for current projects, and not for old tax forms or expired insurance policies. People should abolish the mentality that the filing system is a “purgatory between the top of the desk and the garbage can”. It should be seen as something that is being used now.
For all the old documents, having to go through them at least twice a year and shredding the unnecessary ones will do wonders for you. The necessary documents can be kept in a banker’s box or other containers.
Lastly, organizing your home office will be a lot easier and fun if you will chose the trendiest office furnitures that are available for your space. From choosing the most stylish office chairs, and office desks, or even the sorting trays and storage boxes—organizing your home office might be just the best thing for you.
