How to Keep Your Workstation Clean and Germ-Free

According to the recent study, office desks can be up to 400 times dirtier than the average toilet seat. Even more shocking statistics revealed that the amount of bacteria on the average woman’s desk was found to be up to thrice or four times greater than that of an average man’s office desk.

Because you don’t want these disease-triggering filths lying around you while you work, it would be best to start cleaning and sanitizing your workstation. Here are a few simple tips on how to keep your workspace spick and span.

1. Munching at your station is not only unethical and unprofessional but it brings germs and bacteria as well. If you don’t have any option or anyplace to eat, it is ok to do it at your cube as long as you make sure that you clean the area before and after eating. This way, you are keeping the place clean and preventing possible dreaded illness as well.

2. Wash your hands after eating. You don’t want to touch office furniture like desks and chair, or other office equipments such as the keyboard and the mouse with dirty hands. Crumbs, food stain, and food waste are the perfect breeding grounds of these bugs.

3. Your stack of documents, envelopes, folders, and other paper-based products are the hotbed of dustmites and other microorganisms that can cause allergies and other certain diseases. Once in a while, sort your files and take out old piles of paper. Put them in a storage box or cabinet instead of having them clutter your desk.

4. Regularly clean your area with a damp cloth or a static cloth to remove dusts. You can also use vacuum cleaner for hard to clean surfaces like upholstery, and other equipments like keyboard, monitor printers, etc. Also, use antiseptic or antibacterial solution to ensure a germ-free working area.

So, if you think that toilets are the dirtiest part of your office, then you have to think again. You may not see it but the dirtiest place might be right in front of you. Yes, it might be your office desk! Clear out that mess and sanitize your desk for a healthier and cleaner working environment.
