Have you made changes in the office lately?

Do you know that simple and little changes in the office, say your task schedule, or even the position of your office furniture can boost your well-being?

Robert Dobson of the Times Magazine wrote about the positive effect of changing office furniture positions, and even the use of office machines in the total well-being of the employee.

One thing he notes is on the position of the office desk and the computer screen. The monitor should meet the staff at eye level to prevent neck strains. The desk and office chair must be adjusted to satisfy this requirement.

It was also suggested that a person can try to locate his work space near a window. Employees found to be working near windows tend to be more productive and efficient in the office. This may be due to the effect that an external view can do for the person. When you can see something outside the usual office environment, it boosts your creativity juices and sparks you to work. It also improves your mood.

Change in the position of office furniture, and a little modification of office layout can transform the dull and boring sights into something new. People tend to respond to things that are new. Employees for example find certain vigor in working in a different angle or position other than the usual space he or she occupies in his or her cubicle. Additionally, Mr. Dobson suggests that office layout and position of office furniture can make a difference to staff health.

So what are the ways to make changes in the office? Of course you can’t always do office redesign everyday, but you can follow these simple ways to help improve your well being and productivity in the office.

1. If you are using a laptop, try working away from your usual office desk or cubicle. Why not try the pantry or somewhere more relaxed to help you ease stress and focus more on the job.
2. If you can choose to sit where there is a window, do so. You can open the blinds at certain times of the day when you feel most bored. This distracts your negative feeling.
3. If you can’t seem to think while you’re in your designated work place, try walking around and find a spot where there is a small plant or anything green and leafy to relax you. This invites thinking. You can be sure the ideas can start flowing.
4. Don’t sit beside a printer. Apart from the fact that its noise can distract you, it also signifies the idea of “work” instead of something less obligatory.
5. Make sure your chair and desk are properly adjusted so that your computer screen is at eye level.

The simple changes can make a difference. Varying work positions and if you can afford it, schedules, can do a lot of good for you. Not only will you start working better, you might actually find yourself enjoying an improved mood, health, and well-being.
