Good Office Furniture to Avoid RMD
One must be aware of all the risks that pose a threat to his health, due to his daily tasks in the office. Little do we know that our daily activities make us perform a series of repeated movements which may destroy our hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, and the back. Among the most common disorder would be the Repetitive Motion Disorder or the RMDs.
What is an RMD?
Due to the repetitive nature of our tasks, a group of musculoskeletal conditions can be caused by RMD. These are overexertion, incorrect pressure, and friction caused by an unnatural or awkward motion such as twisting the arm or wrist. An example of this would be the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Bursitis of an inflammation between a tendon and a bone, Tendonitis, Epicondylitis or an inflammation of the upper arm near the elbow, Ganglion cyst or the inflammation of tissues and joints, Tenosynovitis, and Trigger finger or the snapping or locking of a finger.
Who are at risk of RMDs?
People who have to perform repetitive activities are the ones who are prone to RMDs. Here are the professions that have been proven to be at risk of RMDs: Assembly line work, meatpacking, sewing, musicians, carpentry, gardening, playing golf and tennis, lifting children, and computer work. Children who always play the computer or video games may be at risk of having RMDs too, so be careful of what they do. It is sad though since most office work involves the use of computer, and typing is what most employees do.
As a solution, office furniture retailers have started to make their designs more ergonomic to the health of the users. From office desks that enhance the relaxed position of the hands to office chairs that allow the back to rest—ergonomic office furniture has really evolved as a way to avoid these injuries. So be careful in choosing your office furniture. They may just be investments that can do a lot for you in the long run.
