Ergonomics Essential in Office Furniture – Part 1

All of today’s businesses take into account how important ergonomic office furniture is in the work place. More and more industries are becoming aware of how to protect their employees and how to prevent work place injuries by choosing office furniture that are ergonomically designed to fit their preferences. Some even engage in conducting seminars teaching office employees how to prevent such injuries (cumulative trauma disorders). As it turns out there are a lot of ways to do so, like for example, the proper way to set up work stations, there is a certain office desk height, the computer monitors top line of type should be between eye level and keyboards should be placed properly to allow the wrists to remain straight.

When it comes to office chairs, being a workers companion for getting the job done, it has to be comfortable. It should be adjustable to a users preference without straining the back or resulting to improper posture. The office furniture must also be arranged where employees can move with ease and therefore not having to create distress. These are just among a few tips. Studies have also shown that office workers have been more productive and comfortable in the workplace and have not reported injuries when they have ergonomic office furniture.

OERC stands for Office Ergonomic Research Committee. They are a not for profit organization of companies who commit to advanced research in office ergonomics and musculoskeletal disorders. The OERC is composed of member companies that specialize in input device and office furniture manufacturers, providers of ergonomic programs and solutions, and companies with large populations of office technology users. Aside from having a wide range of member companies, they are also associated with other research communities and government health communities which help them provide important information on sources and contacts when it comes to ergonomic program development and implementation.
