Duke Surplus Key Plans – Part 2

In line with this, sustainability becomes a result of Duke’s strategic goal. Nothing will go to waste if they find a use for it especially those that are still in good condition.

Office furniture
like office desks or office chairs that have not been used can be donated and Duke will find a place for them whether locally or internationally. They even accept medical equipment and supplies that have not been used in medical procedures and those will be donated to Dukes Global Health PLUS (Placement of Life-changing Useable Surplus) and this will go to health programs all over the world. This program facilitates the organization of surplus office furniture and medical equipment donation.

The whole procurement process will take its toll starting July 1, 2007 and they will request for more chairs by that time. Several non profit groups have already sent their confirmation in participating this endeavor for it has a good cause. This will surely benefit the whole community.

Here is an information on how to go about the new surplus program come July 1. You will need to fill up the pickup request form online. This will be linked to www.procurement.duke.edu. Then you will have to enter the required information about each item, this will include computers and peripherals. DeHaven’s, a contracted moving and storage company and partner in this initiative, will be responsible for collection of these items. It may take a few extra days to coordinate pickups. However, individual items and small quantities of furniture will be picked up at no cost.

The items will then be collected and distributed to several off-campus warehouse facilities for storage (short term) Local charities and nonprofits will be contacted to schedule a time to pick up items they’ve requested. And if you wish to request surplus items for use in your department, please call 684-2964 to determine if the items needed are available.
