Buying Guide for File Cabinets in the Office – Part 2

The Lateral filing cabinets on the other hand are wider or broader than the vertical ones but it lacks depth. They can also carry around two to five drawers that can hold letters, papers, legal documents or the like. Vertical filing cabinets are built for high volume capacity and due to its lack of depth the files inside are arranged from left to right therefore facing the sides of the drawers. There are times when the files are placed in the drawers from front to back but in this case they are arranged in multiple rows. Since these lateral filing cabinets are wider than they are tall, most of them are placed underneath work stations or work surfaces like tables.

Especially the two drawer models, these are often designed and paired with an office desk to increase storage and therefore does not take up a lot of the walking space. So you would still have enough room for more work stations. This is advisable for crowded areas, offices with a lot of employees or for offices that engage in computer reated tasks. This is an advantageous solution especially for those who have a small work area. Since lateral filing cabinets lack depth, they have shorter drawer extensions making them ideal for places like the hallway or even a narrow office.

In case you are wondering what these file cabinets are made of, well they are made of steel. Most office furniture manufacturers opt for steel because of its strength. This material is very durable and sturdy. It can hold a lot when it comes to storage and it will not easily break. It can stand the test of time and still look amazing. A steel cabinet is strong enough to withstand pressure, as compared to wood cabinets. This depends of course on how often it will be used.
