A More Feminine Office – Part 1
Businesses have become aware of the presence of women and have given them a warm welcome in almost every industry. This occurrence has paved way in promoting the role of women in the society we live in. There are a lot of social groups being formed nowadays for the sole purpose of increasing awareness on women empowerment.
Most of these organizations aim to show the equality of men and women especially when it comes to decision-making and leading an institution. Therefore more and more women are sitting on top of a lot of companies and leading such organizations. These help shape the women of today and mold them into becoming key to social diversity.
Since there is a fast increasing number of businesses owned by females nationwide, our office furniture industry has kept themselves up to date with this trend. They want to offer furniture that are custom made to suit the women’s preferences.
Most of the women who run the management seem to think that most office desks or office chairs are too heavy, or too masculine when it comes to design. Office furniture manufacturers like Ikea and OfficeMax Inc. are trying to provide solutions to these office needs. They are doing so by providing office furniture tailor fit to women’s features, these could be office chairs or office desks measured to accommodate women’s smaller frames. Even office furniture that has more storage to hold more items like purses, vanity kits, and bags. Ikea even has plans of expanding this endeavor overseas. Ikea even plans to expand the program overseas. More often than not women tend to express themselves in a detailed manner.
As opposed to men who are more practical and they opt for functionality of the equipment. Women spend on accessories, or in this case, office decor and furnishings. They want their office to say something about them. They want it to be unique and to be viewed as an extension of their image and so they want to use furniture to personalize their space.
Office Depot Inc., the nation’s second-largest office supplies retailer, has paired up with Christopher Lowell, a noted decorating guru, in 2003 to create items that would be a big hit to women in the corporate world. They manufactured items like executive office desks that are whitewashed, promoting a beach house feel. They also made hutches with antique finishes and they’ve introduced decorative shelving to the market as well earlier this year.
