How to take care of wooden office furniture

A piece of furniture that is well taken cared of will be of a good investment for you well in the future. Putting up a good timber veneer desk will be an investment. To be able to maintain the desk looking new is to know how to take care of the timber veneer.

There are clear threats to timber veneer office furniture:

* Light is a direct threat to dark woods because it stains light woods over time. Eventhough your wood is stained or finished, it can easily penetrate those protective finishes.
* Oftentimes we have placed a glass on a wooden surface and seen the cloudy white effect the condensation has on the wood. Water causes harm to your wooden furniture.

* Wooden or timber veneer office furniture is made to be used, but all that use will have an impact on the wood. It could be in the form of the constant desktop work removing layers of finish that exposes the wood underneath, or possibly dents and dings from items used on the desktop.

* With regular use a wooden office desk will start to have joints loosen up, as will any desk. If these loose bolts and screws are let go too long, they may create larger holes in the wood that can hold the hardware needed to keep it together.

Ways to preserve your wooden office furniture:

* Moving away the piece of wooden office furniture out of direct sunlight is a way to avoid damage of the furniture. Set up blinds and curtains to keep your office furniture out of direct sunlight if you need the desk to be near a window.

* To avoid with water damage is to not have it in the first place on the furniture itself. While you may think your potted plants are leak proof, there are always accidents to be had, and such accidents can ruin your office desk surface. If you are going to put drinks on the desktop surface, make sure there are coasters to set the glass on.

* Office instruments should not be allowed to impact the wood, when it comes to preserving the wooden desktop surface. Placing a glass top over the desk or even a padded or fabric table cover can do this. If you are allowing the wood surface to be exposed, make sure to maintain it.

* Annual waxing is advised if the wood is showing fingerprints or other minor marks. The wooden areas of the desk should be dusted and cleaned with a damp cloth. You can get a microcrystalline wax to use only on the surfaces where the fingerprints and other handling marks are showing up.

An additional way to take care of your wooden office furniture is to find out what kind of wood it is made of.
