Izzydesign Goes Environment-Friendly
New Workstyles’ accredited furniture maker izzydesign has decided to go Environment-Friendly by using non-harmful materials in its furnitures and ergonomic office chairs, as well as its waste-trimming lean manufacturing system.
Chuck Saylor, president and founder of Izzydesign may be all raves for the Hannah chair, but he is actually more concerned with how the company could take care of the Spring Lake Township where it is located.
Saylor said that the company’s strong emphasis on the environment, such as the use of clean water no-phosphate painting and the capture of all water runoff, is aimed at obtaining a Michigan Clean Corporate Citizen designation for next year.
“Since we founded Izzydesign, our goal has been to do more with less, and to help create a better world for future generations by having minimal impact on the environment,” he recently said in a statement.
The company also hangs its hat on family. The company’s name is derived from one of Saylor’s grandchildren, Isabelle, and all of its product lines are named for children or grandchildren of staff members. Its new Hannah swivel-tilt task chair is named for Chief Operating Officer Scott Reus’ daughter.
Incidentally, the Hannah office chair won an Editors Choice Award in The Best of NeoCon 2007 competition, making it six out of the last seven years that Izzydesign has earned NeoCon “Best” honors.
“What’s appealing about Hannah is that it’s the appropriate task chair for people in emerging markets like health care and education,” said Tim Ruffini, Izzy’s director of brand management. “It’s all about ‘less is more’.”
A year ago, Izzydesign was awarded the Greenguard Environmental Institute’s Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certification for meeting safe indoor air standards without any restrictions or modifications to its product design, materials or processes.
Saylor launched Izzydesign six years ago with a small design and marketing staff from a loft office in Grand Rapids, then relocated in 2003 to the former Counterpoint furniture plant in Spring Lake Township, where 125 people are now employed in design, marketing and furniture making.
