Steelcase Showcases New Product – Part 2

Amia will be launched first in North America and begins shipping to customers in February 2008. Steelcase has yet shown their expertise when it comes to office furniture, be it office desks or office chairs. They continue to innovate and think of ways to serve their market better.

The Amia has a key feature, which is the use of Alive Seating technology. This allows its operator to move and control the chair with comfort. There are a lot of chairs in Steelcase’s portfolio which use this technology like Leap(R), Think(R), Siento(TM) and Move(TM). Some of these chairs have even been used in airline and automobiles!

The designer of the chair was Thomas Overtun of IDEO. The chair is designed to move with the user or operator. The seat was created and aims to give comfort especially when sitting for a prolonged period of time. Its unique contours are all designed carefully dedicated to providing ease to the user during those long hours of work, sitting behind the office desk in front of the computer. This is ideal for those offices that have multiple shifts since it is durable and flexible enough to handle such type of use. It has components or materials that have been approved by the McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry and determined safe for human and environmental health.

Amia is also recyclable, so the chair will undergo a life cycle assessment to determine its impact in the environment through the whole duration of its product life. The Amia has other features like, work chair versions, such as office chairs. They also have stool versions, sewn or non-sewn versions. Then there’s the armless, height only, or fully adjustable arms. It has casters or glides, even customizable to Steelcase upholstery, healthcare fabrics or customer’s own material. This is also available in three colors: platinum, black, and an optional polished aluminum base.
