Senator International to Acquire Plan-It
UK’s biggest office furniture manufacturer Senator International has decided to acquire Plan-It Welding Services Ltd. In the goal to develop and produce cheaper work over their overseas rivals. Plan-It produces tubular steel components, which is a key part of making furniture.
“We believe that as part of the Senator Group, Plan-It Welding will be able to continue to provide the very flexible manufacturing facility for metal components which is critical to the future of our business,” Colin Mustoe, chairman of Senator said in an interview.
The company used to employ Plan-It to carry out work on the their behalf, but was going to start sending contracts overseas because the cost was cheaper. Now, it has decided to buy Plan-It instead as the company needs to retain its long-term run in the international market.
Senator, UK’s office furniture giant on the Altham Business Park has a total turnover of £76 million. It houses more than 900 staff members, and it was the winner of the Lancashire Telegraph’s Business of the Year award in 2006.
Senator, on the Altham Business Park, is the UK’s biggest office furniture manufacturer, with more than 900 staff and a turnover of £76million.
It was winner of the Lancashire Telegraph’s Business of the Year award in 2006. Following this recognition, the company also scooped Business of the Year in the North West Society of Chartered Accountants’ annual awards. So it is not really hard to understand why Senator is in such a pressure to rise in the global market.
“We seriously considered sourcing these components from lower cost countries but eventually decided to continue to source these components in the UK and believe with the right investment, Plan-It Welding can compete with these lower labor cost countries,” Mustoe stated.
Plan-IT was formed in 1970 and the company has 50 staff at its base on the Premier Business Park in Blackburn. Law firms, Napthens Solicitors, and Haworth and Nuttall, which both have offices in Blackburn as well as business advisory group Pierce, also based in the town, helped in the deal.
Senator was established in 1977 and is a wide manufacturer and distributor of a wide range of office furniture across the world.
