Craftmaster Furniture Inc. Announces New CEO

Furniture company, Craftmaster Furniture Inc., announces the promotion of Roy R. Calcagne to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Calcagne spent 26 years in the furniture business and was Senior VP of Universal furniture’s upholstery division when he joined them back in August 2003. Prior that, Calcagne was VP of merchandising at Broyhill Furniture, VP of Sales for Joan fabrics and an upholstery buyer for Macys, New York.

May 2006, after Craftmaster was acquired by Lacquer Craft, a fine company with a long standing history of quality and service, he was named President of the company. Calcagne will now report to Laquer Craft’s Chairman Samuel Kuo. Steven Lackey, the current CEO and previous owner, who has extensive background in upholstery manufacturing will remain with the company in a consulting and advisory capacity and having his input and guidance on various future projects, is something to look forward to.

Craftmaster Furniture Inc. is a recognized leader in upholstered home and office furniture, including over 140 fabric and leather sofa styles, chairs, recliners and unique accent pieces, plus a fully customized special order program – with over 1000 designer fabrics in changeable patterns and colors.

The future of Craftmaster looks significantly bright with the positive changes that have taken place since it was acquired by Lacquer Craft last year, to expand its upholstery business, and they are looking forward to helping the company achieve their goals for 2007 and the years to come.

Craftmaster’s relationship with Lacquer Craft will allow it to offer domestically produced upholstery, while taking advantage of its sourcing capabilities within China. This will further enhance the value of the Craftmaster product line which offers 140 sofa styles in the retail price range of $699 to $999 and with a full custom order program with over 1000 fabrics for options.

Craftmaster will also produce the Universal and Legacy Classic Furniture, Better Homes and Gardens upholstery collection, which was successfully launched at this past spring market in High Point. This will enable the Lacquer Craft group to produce products for all categories in residential and office furniture.

Craftmaster has a devoted customer base made up of strong independent accounts largely in the eastern United States. The growth of the company will come from these fine dealers plus the addition of a number of larger home and office furniture retailers added since the October 2006 market. Craftmaster is now showing at the Las Vegas market to further expand its circulation in the western U.S. and has leased a 50,000 square foot warehouse locally to sustain the rapid increase of the import program.

The new CEO believes that a merged strategy of domestic upholstery production and sourcing from China is what a furniture company needs to survive and grow in the current furniture business environment. They have introduced a strong cut-and-sew fabric program last October. Those categories were lengthened at this past spring market and they launched a widely acceptable variety of modern products which gives the furniture company a new direction.
