Office Furniture in Louisiana Goes Hollywood

Everybody wants to make it to Hollywood. Who doesn’t anyway? But in the progressive town of Shreveport, a particular office furniture company has already found it way to wonderland.

When Alissa Kantrow, a television and film industry veteran who is co-founder of Louisiana Production Consultants LLC, walked into the store on Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in Shreveport, little did she know how things would quickly change for Office Furniture Outlet.

“She came in and bought half of our showroom.” said general manager Chris Hermes. “She said, ‘I want everything on the left side on the showroom.’, I was just fortunate. Alissa Kantrow arrived just after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and didn’t know where to find furniture locally, so she asked someone who recommended the Office Furniture Outlet.

Remarkably, the office furniture industry in Shreveport bloomed right after that. Kantrow introduced the business to other production companies that were coming to town to film movies. Since most film production would require local items such as office desks and office chairs to be used with the on location set, it didn’t become difficult for furniture companies to get into the movie industry.

Kantrow gave important tips to businesses on how to go about breaking into the film industry. She suggested visiting or making contact with four sources, for starters: Robinson Film Center, the Northwest Louisiana Film Alliance, the Shreveport mayor’s office and local chambers of commerce. Also, another great tip given is to call the city’s director of film, media and entertainment and find out which movies and production companies are coming to town and call them.

Louisiana has seen a meteoric rise in film production specially after the Hurricane tragedy. More and more film outfits have been flocking to the cities and bayou to catch the marvel of the countryside. Not only that businesses gain from the tourism, but the grandeur that is Louisiana is once again recognized.
