The decision of where to work and how to set up a small office, is a familiar struggle among Seattle-area startups, said Michael Franz, a business adviser with the Washington Small Business Development Center, which is run by Washington State University.

My Day Office for the Home-based Workers-I

My Day Office, a new Belltown business based in Seattle hopes to cater to the growing population of employers and employees who would rather stay at home, or turn a small space into their own office. The concept of the business is to require the clients a “membership”, meaning they would have to pay the fees and dues, which is more cheaper and flexible than the other office options.

The first location will be on Broad Street and Elliott Avenue, which is scheduled to open after the Labor Day. The store aims to open 20 more locations along the Interstate in the next decade.

Entrepreneur Josh Bereano, 38, said he rolls out of bed each morning in his Hawthorne Hills neighborhood to check his e-mail. He feels cut-off from the work force sometimes.

Senator International to Acquire Plan-It

UK’s biggest office furniture manufacturer Senator International has decided to acquire Plan-It Welding Services Ltd. In the goal to develop and produce cheaper work over their overseas rivals. Plan-It produces tubular steel components, which is a key part of making furniture.

“We believe that as part of the Senator Group, Plan-It Welding will be able to continue to provide the very flexible manufacturing facility for metal components which is critical to the future of our business,” Colin Mustoe, chairman of Senator said in an interview.

The company used to employ Plan-It to carry out work on the their behalf, but was going to start sending contracts overseas because the cost was cheaper. Now, it has decided to buy Plan-It instead as the company needs to retain its long-term run in the international market.

Aluminium Makes Office Furnitures Ideal

Acclaimed office furniture manufacturer Workspace Solutions has admitted the main component that makes their products successful—Aluminium.

“Our company designs and manufactures aluminium and steel components such as legs for a variety of uses in office furniture, kitchens, upholstery and the hospitality industry which includes restaurants, hotels and so on,” Mike Grantham of Workspace Solutions said in an interview. “Aluminium is one of many materials available in the formulation of a design. I have found it to be an extremely versatile metal, either combined with other materials or on its own, as it has both functional and aesthetic qualities. As an extrusion I have been able to use it in the creation of screens, handles, under frames and legs, supplying the office, kitchen and domestic markets. This usage of aluminium is of a more functional nature than the applications afforded by using a casting process.”
